How long does a logo project actually take?

A good logo project moves deliberately. Rush jobs produce rushed marks. Here's the realistic path from initial conversation to final file delivery.

The realistic timeline

  • Brief & research: 3-5 days
  • Concept exploration: 1-2 weeks (2-3 directions)
  • Client feedback & direction selection: 3-5 days
  • Refinement & systemization: 1-2 weeks
  • Final delivery & file prep: 2-3 days

Total: 4-8 weeks for most projects

Simple wordmark projects can finish in 3-4 weeks. Complex identities with multiple directions, secondary marks, and full guidelines can take 8-10 weeks. Always ask for a specific timeline in your brief conversation.

What slows things down

Delayed client feedback is the biggest variable. Each revision round typically takes 3-5 working days per direction. The client who sits on feedback for two weeks has extended the project by two weeks.

How to keep it moving

Be decisive. A clear yes/no with specific feedback beats vague "I like it but..." dialogue. The most efficient logo projects come from clients who trust the process and give direct direction.
